To search the Battle Ground residents directory, start with the kind of fact you already have. An address can lead to a county parcel and its recorded owner, while a name can be checked in court and voter sources. Older names often require a trip through library directories and archived records. No one source proves that a person now lives at a certain home. The safest route in Battle Ground, Washington, is to compare a current county record with the original document or another official source, keep each person’s role clear, and note the date of every result.

Finding Battle Ground Residents

Battle Ground does not keep one public list of everyone who lives in the city. Instead, official records describe distinct roles. The Clark County Assessor links a parcel to an assessed owner. The Auditor indexes people who signed recorded deeds, liens, easements, plats, and marriage documents. Elections records identify registered voters under Washington law, while courts index parties to filed cases. A directory search works best when the question is narrow: who owns a parcel, who signed an instrument, or whether a named person appears in a stated record set.

Presence in a record does not always mean residence. A parcel may belong to a trust or company. An owner’s mailing address may differ from the property, and a court party may have only a case connection to Clark County. Renters and other household members may leave no open address-keyed record at all. Keep the label used by the custodian, and do not change “owner,” “party,” or “mailing address” into “occupant.”

  1. Check whether an address is inside Battle Ground city limits with county GIS, not just a postal label.
  2. Search the Clark County Property Information Center by address or tax account and save the parcel ID.
  3. Use the parcel ID, legal description, or party name in the Auditor’s Landmark recorded-document index.
  4. For a named person, compare court, voter, vital, or credential records suited to the question.
  5. For an earlier household, consult dated county directories, newspapers, deeds, and archival material.

Battle Ground Address Boundaries

A Battle Ground mailing address is not the same fact as land within the incorporated city. ZIP 98604 serves the central postal area, while 98606 can describe nearby Brush Prairie territory associated with the broader Battle Ground area. Growth along SR-502 and SR-503 also places current addresses near older Meadow Glade, Hockinson, Brush Prairie, or Yacolt references. That difference decides whether the city, Clark County, or another district is the right records custodian.

Use Clark County MapsOnline to compare the taxlot with city, ZIP, precinct, neighborhood, school, utility, and other administrative layers. The USPS ZIP Code Lookup can normalize a postal address, but USPS itself warns that a ZIP result does not prove a person or business is at that address. Once the jurisdiction is clear, the fuller parcel workflow belongs in the Battle Ground street directory.

Note: Store postal city, city-limit status, tax parcel, and neighborhood association as four separate location facts.

Battle Ground Records Custodians

Most Battle Ground resident records are countywide because Vancouver is the Clark County seat. The Auditor records land instruments and marriage documents. The Assessor maintains parcel and value data. Elections staff handle registration, though public voter-list requests now route to the Washington Secretary of State. Current municipal permits, code files, and police or city records have separate Battle Ground paths. County counter services may shift during the Joint Lobby renovation planned through the end of 2026, so check the linked office notice before visiting.

Battle Ground Parcel Search

The free Property Information Center, often called PIC, is the quickest official address route. Its public web form accepts a full or partial street address and a tax account number. Owner-name searching is different: the county reserves that mode for self-service computers in the Joint Lobby. Open-data downloads refresh weekly, so a dated parcel report is stronger than an undated note copied from a screen.

Search fieldHow Battle Ground records use it
Street addressEnter the situs address, the location assigned to the parcel, with a partial-address option.
Tax account or PANUse the parcel account number when an address has changed or returns several taxlots.
Owner nameSearch at a county public computer rather than the web form.
Map identifySelect the taxlot in MapsOnline when text search does not locate the parcel.

PIC may show the account, legal description, owner and mailing labels, assessment facts, and most recent sale. Those fields connect a place to a recorded ownership interest, not to every Battle Ground resident at the address. Follow the current parcel into Landmark before treating a sale field as a complete chain.

The official PIC screen shows the county’s address-first search:

The screen’s address and account choices explain why a parcel number is often the cleanest bridge to recorded documents.

Battle Ground Recorded Parties

The Clark County Landmark index covers online searches from January 1, 1961. It can be searched by grantor or grantee, document type, recording date, auditor file number, parcel ID, or legal description. A grantor transfers or gives an interest; a grantee receives it. Deeds, liens, releases, easements, plats, marriage records, and related filings can place a name in a Battle Ground property trail without proving current occupancy.

Open the indexed image when available, because the search row is only a finding aid and online images are unofficial copies. Certified and noncertified copies can be requested online, by mail, or in person. For older land work, use county office help, FamilySearch deed images for 1859–1921 and its index through 1977, plus the Washington Digital Archives land series for 1998–2021. The overlap helps confirm spelling, legal descriptions, and missing links.

Use the field that matches the known fact, then verify the result against the recorded image or a county copy.

Current Battle Ground Resident Rolls

Current sources differ in scope, date, and legal meaning. Treat each as a role-based list instead of a master Battle Ground residents directory. A property roll is strong for ownership. A voter file is strong for registration fields the law makes public. A court index is a route to a case file. City permits connect an applicant, contractor, or project contact to work at an address, while license systems establish an active credential or entity status.

For a single name, a structured Battle Ground resident lookup can keep those roles separate and require a second identifier before combining records.

Battle Ground Voter Records

VoteWA is the personal registration lookup. Broader public voter fields under RCW 29A.08.710 include name, address, political jurisdiction, gender, year of birth, voting record, registration date, and registration number. Original registration forms and protected fields are not public. Clark County directs list and statewide database requests to the Secretary of State under RCW 29A.08.105(3), while precinct information helps determine whether an entry relates to Battle Ground.

Washington limits how lists may be used. RCW 29A.08.720 restricts solicitation, and RCW 42.56.070(8) bars agencies from providing lists of individuals for commercial purposes. VoteWA also serves the voter directly, so it should not be treated as an unrestricted neighbor directory. The official voter screen appears here:

The account-oriented design reflects the difference between checking one’s registration and requesting a lawful public data extract.

Battle Ground Court Routes

Washington Courts Search Case Records spans municipal, district, superior, and appellate indexes, with updates that may lag by about 24 hours. A result is a lead, not proof of identity, outcome, or a conviction. Match a case number, court, filing date, and case type, then obtain the docket or document from the court that created it. A docket is the chronological list of filings and events in a case.

Battle Ground Municipal Court has its own request route for city citations. Clark County Superior Court records are available through the Clerk, current Odyssey access, public OnBase terminals, email requests, paper copies, and archived microfilm. That split matters for older divorce, civil, probate, and criminal material. A 1960s divorce, for example, may require Superior Court film because the state’s marriage and divorce certificate series begins in 1968.

The state court search sets out its own limits before a user enters a name:

Read the warning, save the case number, and confirm the source file rather than relying on the synopsis alone.

A separate, current-only source is the Clark County Jail Roster, which displays a CFN, name, book date, location, release date, and booking charges:

A roster entry must be dated and kept distinct from a court judgment, case disposition, or lasting resident record.

Battle Ground Vital Links

Washington Department of Health issues current statewide birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates. Certified birth and death copies are limited to qualified applicants with proof of identity and eligibility under chapter 70.58A RCW. Noncertified informational birth and short-form death copies have different access rules. Marriage and divorce certificates from 1968 forward may be ordered by anyone, but DOH advises that a newly finalized record can take about three months to arrive from the county.

Clark County Public Health handles current local birth and recent death services. The Clark County Auditor records marriage certificates, issues licenses, and offers local copy routes. Pre-1968 divorce decrees come from the Superior Court Clerk, not DOH. Historical transfers open at the State Archives after 100 years for births and fetal deaths and 25 years for deaths, marriages, and divorces. The DOH forms directory separates the correct order forms:

Choose the record type and copy type first, then follow its proof, identity, fee, and mailing instructions.

Battle Ground City Files

Battle Ground’s own layer is most useful for permits, inspections, plans, code cases, council material, and police or administrative records. The city’s public-record intake moved to JustFOIA on June 2, 2025. Municipal Court remains outside that form. A city request asks for contact details, a clear description, a date range, departments, keywords, and a preferred delivery method. Under RCW 42.56.520, an agency has five business days to produce records, deny the request, acknowledge it with an estimate, or ask for clarification.

The city’s CSS permit search works without an account and can use an address or parcel. Electronic plan review began December 1, 2025, so a file near that change may include electronic comments and approvals plus older paper material. Code files may separate the complaint, inspection, warning letter, Notice and Order, civil penalty, and closure. Request each stage rather than treating one status as the whole history.

Historical Battle Ground Directories

The Washington State Library identifies Clark County directory volumes for 1918–19, 1921, 1928–29, 1931, and 1934. A regional volume may list Battle Ground under a town, rural route, post office, or street label, so note the publisher, year, page, exact spelling, occupation, spouse, and address as printed. The city’s 1902 railroad link and 1903 town plat make East Main, the rail corridor, and the Old Town grid useful anchors. The complete shelf and entry method are covered in the Battle Ground city directory.

The State Library county directory page shows the surviving Clark County run:

The listed years are holdings, not proof of a complete Battle Ground-only run. Check access before travel because the research library closed to general public access in July 2025.

Battle Ground Research Partners

Battle Ground Community Library is the local starting point for catalog help and access to Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries resources. FVRLibraries offers Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest, Newspapers.com, NewsBank, Fold3, and other genealogy tools, with some limited to library use or cardholders. News and obituary indexes are leads to a dated page, not substitutes for a death certificate or probate file.

The Clark County Genealogical Society catalog adds cemetery, obituary, and local genealogy leads. The Clark County Historical Museum offers one courtesy research hour, then paid work, and states a four-to-six-week minimum turnaround. Give the museum a full name, address, date span, sources already checked, and the exact question. Its house and local-history work can join a current parcel to a deed, directory entry, news item, map, or photo without claiming that every listed proprietor lived there.

The FVRLibraries genealogy resource page identifies its available research tools:

The resource list helps choose between an in-library database, a cardholder service, a newspaper run, and staff guidance.

Verify Battle Ground Resident Records

Two matching details are a sound minimum before records are combined. For a parcel, compare its account number and legal description with the latest recorded instrument. For a court hit, use the case number and originating court. For an old directory name, compare the printed address with a deed, census, newspaper page, or vital record. Date each lookup because parcel, permit, custody, voter, and license systems change.

Roll
An official list created for one purpose, such as assessment or voter registration.
Index
A finding tool that points to a source document but may omit context or later changes.
Parcel
A mapped unit of land identified by a tax account and legal description.
Criss-cross directory
A directory arranged by street or address, allowing a place-first search of past listings.

Use records lawfully. Do not use Battle Ground address or resident information to stalk, harass, intimidate, or uncover an Address Confidentiality Program participant’s actual location.

Washington’s Address Confidentiality Program may replace an eligible person’s residential address in new state, county, city, and court records. If a substitute address or protected field appears, stop linking address sources. A negative search should also stay narrow: write that a name was not found in the named source and date range, not that the person or record does not exist.
